The 100 / 60 / 30 Kingdom. What Does Matthew 13:23 Mean?

NOTE: THE TRANSCRIPT IS NOT EXACTLY LIKE THE RECORDING.

The Heavenly Father wants me to interrupt moving into the teaching on Gideon in order to bring you the following teaching. It was downloaded to me only this morning. Let me give you a background for this.

But first let me tell you that this has everything to do with Toldot, Generations. I hope that when we finish the Torah readings, you have a better understanding of Toldot from what I am about to teach you.

Many years ago, in one of my early Torah Portions of Toldot (probably 10 or more years ago), I heard YHVH tell me that the 100 / 60 / 30 in Matthew 13:23 referred to the patriarchs, not to types of Christians or heavenly rewards as is often taught. At the time, I understood the patriarchs to mean Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

This past week, Brenda said she had listened to this Torah Portion and wondered about what I said in it. Here is what I said: Abraham was 100 when YHVH gave him Isaac, and Isaac was 60 when YHVH gave him Jacob, and Jacob was 30 when Joseph was born.

The problem is that YHVH showed me this morning that the patriarchs are Abraham, Isaac and Joseph, and those numbers do not reflect their ages when their sons were born as I said in the teaching.

I repent for speaking from a place of misunderstanding. Please forgive me for that.

This teaching won’t focus on the different types of hearts or people or rewards. Rather, it will focus on the 100 / 60 / 30 issue and its meaning for which there is much commentary that misses the point. And this understanding comes during the same Torah Portion but so many years later.

Let’s read the Parable of the Sower

The Parable of the Sower

Mat 13:1  On that day Jesus went out of the house, and sat by the seaside.
Mat 13:2  Great multitudes gathered to him, so that he entered into a boat, and sat, and all the multitude stood on the beach.
Mat 13:3  He spoke to them many things in parables, saying, “Behold, a farmer went out to sow.
Mat 13:4  As he sowed, some seeds fell by the roadside, and the birds came and devoured them.
Mat 13:5  Others fell on rocky ground, where they didn’t have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of earth.
Mat 13:6  When the sun had risen, they were scorched. Because they had no root, they withered away.
Mat 13:7  Others fell among thorns. The thorns grew up and choked them.
Mat 13:8  Others fell on good soil, and yielded fruit: some one hundred times as much, some sixty, and some thirty.
Mat 13:9  He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

The disciples waited until they were alone with Yeshua to ask Him to explain this parable. It was hard for them to understand and they were chosen by Him!

Mat 13:10  The disciples came, and said to him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?”
Mat 13:11  He answered them, “To you it is given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but it is not given to them.

Mar 4:13  He said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How will you understand all of the parables?

And then He explains the parable.

The Parable of the Sower Explained

Mat 13:18  “Hear, then, the parable of the farmer.
Mat 13:19  When anyone hears the word of the Kingdom, and doesn’t understand it, the evil one comes, and snatches away that which has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown by the roadside.
Mat 13:20  What was sown on the rocky places, this is he who hears the word, and immediately with joy receives it;
Mat 13:21  yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.
Mat 13:22  What was sown among the thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of this age and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
Mat 13:23  What was sown on the good ground, this is he who hears the word, and understands it, who most certainly bears fruit, and produces, some one hundred times as much, some sixty, and some thirty.” -WEB

There is the explanation of what Yeshua said in Matthew 13:9: He who has ears to hear, meaning only those with proper ears that hear AND obey will understand. Those who H8065, shema, will get it. But we, just like the disciples, still need His direct explanation in order for us to “get it”, don’t we? Even in our “shema-ing”, there is too much of the world in us to properly understand what Yeshua’s reference to the 100 / 60 / 30 meant.  If the disciples didn’t understand without Yeshua’s direct explanation, how much more will we miss the point?

Let’s look at some other translations besides the WEB version because this conundrum is all about translation.

Mat 13:23  But that sown on the good ground is this: he who hears the Word and understands; who also bears fruit and produces one truly a hundredfold; and one sixty; and one thirty. -MKJV

Mat 13:23  But as for the seed sown on good soil, this is the person who hears the word and understands. He bears fruit, yielding a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown.” -NET

Mat 13:23  But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the person who hears the word, understands it, and produces a crop that yields 100, 60, or 30 times what was sown.” -ISV

Mat 13:23  As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.” -ESV

I could go on and on but I don’t need to. Let’s see what the Greek text actually says.

The verses are MISTRANSLATED! The various added English words “hundredfold” (‘hundred’ is there but the ‘fold’ is an old English multiplier which should not be added here), “times”, “yield” and so forth are not in the original manuscripts. These introduce worldly concepts into YHVH’s Kingdom, the concepts of worldly gain rather than heavenly gain and the requirement to achieve that heavenly gain. There only needs to be one English word inserted in italics to make us understand the 100 / 60 / 30.

Matthew 13:23 should read:

“What was sown on the good ground, this is he who hears (shemas) the word, and understands it, who most certainly bears fruit, and produces, some AT one hundred, some AT sixty, and some AT thirty.”

I deliberately changed the translation to remove the wrong words. Matthew 13:23 is translated variously as saying “one hundredfold” or “100 times as much” with the monetary or value increase then pertaining also to the 60 and 30, or 60 fold and 30 fold or 60 times and 30 times. This is not about multiplying earthly goods or heavenly rewards.

The world cannot comprehend YHVH’s Kingdom. This is why Bible translations wreak such havoc. Translators deliberately select specific English words to promote their particular doctrine of their particular religion or sect.

The amounts given in verse 23 are not values, they are the ages of the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Joseph when the promises given to them by YHVH came to fruition BECAUSE of their faith which bore fruit when they were fulfilled. This is Yeshua’s shorthand way of describing Himself to the people on the shore of the Sea of Galilee as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Joseph which they, and the disciples, did not understand.

We can understand now how 100 equals Abraham and 60 has to do with Isaac because at those ages was then they received the fulfillment of YHVH’s explicit promises to them. It is the “Joseph” issue that confounds us because his promises were not spoken explicitly. They came in his dreams which dreams were explicitly fulfilled in the living of his life which life exactly expressed Yeshua’s life on earth as a prophecy. Thus the 100 / 60 / 30 represents the fulfillments of YHVH’s promises upon which His Kingdom is built!

Matthew 13:23 explains the Kingdom of God in the tiniest nutshell Yeshua could put it in. It explains both the Kingdom and the kind of heart required to inherit the Kingdom all in the same tiny nutshell and it takes a certain kind of heart to understand it. It takes the same kind of hearts as were had by Abraham, Isaac and Joseph which were “shema-ing” hearts that had personal relationships with God, YHVH, AND they obeyed His commandments.

Let me show you from the scriptures.

75 is the age when Abraham received his promise of a son from YHVH.

Gen 15:1  After these things Yahweh’s word came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Don’t be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”
Gen 15:2  Abram said, “Lord Yahweh, what will you give me, since I go childless, and he who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?”
Gen 15:3  Abram said, “Behold, you have given no children to me: and, behold, one born in my house is my heir.”
Gen 15:4  Behold, Yahweh’s word came to him, saying, “This man will not be your heir, but he who will come out of your own body will be your heir.”
Gen 15:5  Yahweh brought him outside, and said, “Look now toward the sky, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” He said to Abram, “So will your offspring be.”

There’s the promise of the son, both for Abraham and YHVH.

Be like Abraham who received the Word (the promises), the seed, and he believed, and then afterward received the FRUIT of the promise YHVH gave him at the age of 100.

Gen 21:5  Abraham was one hundred years old when his son, Isaac, was born to him.

60 is the age when Isaac received his Word, his promise.

Gen 26:1  There was a famine in the land, in addition to the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.
Gen 26:2  Yahweh appeared to him, and said, “Don’t go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about.
Gen 26:3  Live in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For I will give to you, and to your offspring, all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.
Gen 26:4  I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and will give all these lands to your offspring. In your offspring will all the nations of the earth be blessed,
Gen 26:5  because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my requirements, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

There is the promise of Isaac birthing nations because YHVH will establish what He promised Abraham.

Be like Isaac who received the Word, the promise, and he believed even though he did not see it until He was 60 years old.

Gen 25:26  …Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

30 was the age when Joseph received his promise.

Be like Joseph who received the Word, the seed, and he believed, and then afterward received the FRUIT of the promise YHVH gave him at the age of 30.

Gen 37:5  Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brothers, and they hated him all the more.
Gen 37:6  He said to them, “Please hear this dream which I have dreamed:
Gen 37:7  for behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and behold, your sheaves came around, and bowed down to my sheaf.”
Gen 37:8  His brothers asked him, “Will you indeed reign over us? Will you indeed have dominion over us?” They hated him all the more for his dreams and for his words.
Gen 37:9  He dreamed yet another dream, and told it to his brothers, and said, “Behold, I have dreamed yet another dream: and behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars bowed down to me.”
Gen 37:10  He told it to his father and to his brothers. His father rebuked him, and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Will I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves down to you to the earth?”
Gen 37:11  His brothers envied him, but his father kept this saying in mind.

When did Joseph receive the promises found in his dreams?

Gen 41:46  Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

Joseph’s very LIFE is a promise which was fulfilled by God in two ways. First, Joseph fulfilled YHVH’s prophecy to Abraham that:

Gen 15:13  He said to Abram, “Know for sure that your offspring will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.

That land was Egypt.

Jacob could not be the one to fulfill this prophecy. Joseph had to do it because he was chosen to the be the family firstborn. Instead, Jacob had to flee from Esau. He had to flee from the world, as it were. And after being tested as an exile outside the promised land, he was allowed to return and take his rightful place.

And then God really did send His own Son to Egypt, the world, where He, like Joseph, was not recognized by His own brothers. Joseph understood the promise in his dream was for a specific purpose. It wasn’t for him to get revenge on his brothers or to become a big shot.

Gen 45:5  Now don’t be grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.

See, the other types of heart which are represented by the road, the shallow soil among the rocks and the heart that lets the cares of the world become more important than YHVH’s Kingdom will never see that laying down your life for the Kingdom will gain you everything.

Only the 4th kind of heart that believes without knowing all the details like Abraham, Isaac and Joseph will enter the Kingdom. This is the heart that bears the fruit of God’s Kingdom.

The 100, 60 and 30, Abraham, Isaac and Joseph, are the big overview of the Kingdom. Here it is again with more detail that Yeshua did not give to the people standing on the seashore when He spoke to them from the boat floating in the Sea of Galilee:

Abraham was promised a Son, Isaac, who would become the progenitor of many nations. The righteous son, Jacob, became the nation of Israel from whom sprung Joseph, the rightful firstborn of Israel.

1Ch 5:1  The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (for he was the firstborn; but, because he defiled his father’s couch, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel; and the genealogy is not to be listed according to the birthright.
1Ch 5:2  For Judah prevailed above his brothers, and from him came the prince; but the birthright was Joseph’s)—

The birthright is still Joseph’s. Judah only prevailed to provide the line through which Yeshua could come so His life’s image could be exactly like the one prophesied through Joseph, the chosen firstborn of Jacob, because Yeshua IS Israel’s firstborn! Yet, when Yeshua comes, He will be the King of all Israel, not the King of Judah or Joseph.

Isaiah 42 is about YHVH’s chosen servant while Isaiah 53 is about His fate. John 1:19-34 confirms Isaiah 42.

Isa 42:1  “Behold, my servant, whom I uphold; my chosen, in whom my soul delights— I have put my Spirit on him. He will bring justice to the nations.
Isa 42:2  He will not shout, nor raise his voice, nor cause it to be heard in the street.
Isa 42:3  He won’t break a bruised reed. He won’t quench a dimly burning wick. He will faithfully bring justice.
Isa 42:4  He will not fail nor be discouraged, until he has set justice in the earth, and the islands will wait for his law.”
Isa 42:5  Thus says God Yahweh, he who created the heavens and stretched them out, he who spread out the earth and that which comes out of it, he who gives breath to its people and spirit to those who walk in it.
Isa 42:6  “I, Yahweh, have called you in righteousness, and will hold your hand, and will keep you, and make you a covenant for the people, as a light for the nations;
Isa 42:7  to open the blind eyes, to bring the prisoners out of the dungeon, and those who sit in darkness out of the prison.
Isa 42:8  “I am Yahweh. That is my name. I will not give my glory to another, nor my praise to engraved images.
Isa 42:9  Behold, the former things have happened, and I declare new things. I tell you about them before they come up.”

Joh 1:19  This is John’s testimony, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”
Joh 1:20  He declared, and didn’t deny, but he declared, “I am not the Christ.”
Joh 1:21  They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” He answered, “No.”
Joh 1:22  They said therefore to him, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
Joh 1:23  He said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”
Joh 1:24  The ones who had been sent were from the Pharisees.
Joh 1:25  They asked him, “Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?”
Joh 1:26  John answered them, “I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you don’t know.
Joh 1:27  He is the one who comes after me, who is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to loosen.”
Joh 1:28  These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Behold, the Lamb of God

Joh 1:29  The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
Joh 1:30  This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is preferred before me, for he was before me.’
Joh 1:31  I didn’t know him, but for this reason I came baptizing in water: that he would be revealed to Israel.”
Joh 1:32  John testified, saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending like a dove out of heaven, and it remained on him.
Joh 1:33  I didn’t recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize in water, he said to me, ‘On whomever you will see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’
Joh 1:34  I have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.”

YHVH’s promises are true and we will receive them at whatever age He has pre-arranged for us to receive them! Our patriarchs’ lives are our example of how YHVH’s Kingdom bears fruit in us starting with the fact that we must first believe without getting all the details as they did.

Why is this so important that I must interrupt the flow of the teachings on the Book of Judges? Because YHVH wants His people to hear His Word, His promises, and BELIEVE them! What is coming on the earth will require that kind of heart, the kind that BELIEVES what He said, that believe His promises to US!

To the Church in Philadelphia

Rev 3:7  “To the angel of the assembly in Philadelphia write: “He who is holy, he who is true, he who has the key of David, he who opens and no one can shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says these things:
Rev 3:8  “I know your works (behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one can shut), that you have a little power, and kept my word, and didn’t deny my name.
Rev 3:9  Behold, I give some of the synagogue of Satan, of those who say they are Jews, and they are not, but lie. Behold, I will make them to come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.
Rev 3:10  Because you kept my command to endure, I also will keep you from the hour of testing, which is to come on the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.
Rev 3:11  I am coming quickly! Hold firmly that which you have, so that no one takes your crown.
Rev 3:12  He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God, and he will go out from there no more. I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God, and my own new name.
Rev 3:13  He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies.

See? There it is again: “He who has an ear”, let him hear (H8065, Shema) meaning HEAR AND OBEY! Hear the Word, the promises which were made to us, just as promises were made to Abraham, Isaac and Joseph. And do as they did: Guard the Torah, obey it to the fullest possible. For THIS is the Kingdom! Check your life and behavior according to His Word for His Word is both promises and commandments, Law.

The 100 / 60 / 30 is not about increase. It is about faith; faith like Abraham’s, Isaac’s and Joseph’s who had faith in YHVH’s Kingdom and in His promises. And it is about Yeshua pointing to Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Joseph, and thus the God and King of the Biblical Kingdom of Israel (not to be confused with the modern UN-created STATE of Israel).

Be Blessed!
