David will now be introduced into Israel’s story. The contrast between him and Saul will be stunning, being exact opposites of each other. One obedient, the other rebellious. One repentant after committing sin; the other unrepentant. One a servant, the other wanting to be served. One gracious, the other malicious.

62 – Saul’s Second Chance

Did you know YHVH is merciful to His people? Did you know He is in the business of trying to have a relationship with each of us, and that when we mess up, He comes looking for us, to give us another chance? He did that for Saul, too. After Saul’s second failure, Israel will also now get a merciful second chance to have a righteous King through Saul’s replacement, David. But there will be a struggle to get to that glorious Kingdom. God willing, we will study that struggle next.

Saul, now the first King of Israel, will not become a dynastic King because he usurped YHVH’s place as the Sovereign of Israel by inadvertently doing what a King-Priest, a Melchizedek, would do – offering a sacrifice to finish his coronation, crowning himself.
