Yom Kippur 2023: Why Do We Have Yom Kippur?

This teaching had to be broken into 2 parts but the entire teaching is around 1 hour 36 minutes with the midrash. Kimberly’s teaching begins immediately. You may need to start the second file to continue to the end. This is due to some computer and internet problems on this end.

NOTE: The transcript is not the same as the actual recording.

Exo 20:18 All the people perceived the thunderings, the lightnings, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking. When the people saw it, they trembled, and stayed at a distance.
Exo 20:19 They said to Moses, “Speak with us yourself, and we will listen; but don’t let God speak with us, lest we die.”
Exo 20:20 Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid, for God has come to test you, and that his fear may be before you, that you won’t sin.”
Exo 20:21 The people stayed at a distance, and Moses came near to the thick darkness where God was.
This led to the sin of the golden calf, the crime against His Law.
Exo 32:1 When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.”
Exo 32:2 Aaron said to them, “Take off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me.”
Exo 32:3 All the people took off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron.
Exo 32:4 He received what they handed him, fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it a molten calf. Then they said, “These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”
Exo 32:5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made a proclamation, and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to Yahweh.”
Exo 32:6 They rose up early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
Exo 32:7 Yahweh spoke to Moses, “Go, get down; for your people, who you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves!
Exo 32:8 They have turned away quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molten calf, and have worshiped it, and have sacrificed to it, and said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.’”
Exo 32:9 Yahweh said to Moses, “I have seen these people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people.
Exo 32:10 Now therefore leave me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I will make of you a great nation.”
Exo 32:11 Moses begged Yahweh his God, and said, “Yahweh, why does your wrath burn hot against your people that you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?
Exo 32:12 Why should the Egyptians speak, saying, ‘He brought them out for evil, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the surface of the earth?’ Turn from your fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against your people.
Exo 32:13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and all this land that I have spoken of I will give to your offspring, and they shall inherit it forever.’”
Exo 32:14 Yahweh repented of the evil which he said he would do to his people.
YHVH decided to not punish His people for their adultery/idolatry against Him. They had just thwarted His plan for Israel to be His Melchizedek nation of priests on the earth! Yet His mercy is so great and His plan so important that He did not destroy Israel then and there. Israel’s final destruction will come, though, at the end of days.
Exo 32:15 Moses turned, and went down from the mountain, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand; tablets that were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other they were written.
Exo 32:16 The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.
Exo 32:17 When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is the noise of war in the camp.”
Exo 32:18 He said, “It isn’t the voice of those who shout for victory. It is not the voice of those who cry for being overcome; but the noise of those who sing that I hear.”
Exo 32:19 As soon as he came near to the camp, he saw the calf and the dancing. Then Moses’ anger grew hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mountain.
Exo 32:20 He took the calf which they had made, and burned it with fire, ground it to powder, and scattered it on the water, and made the children of Israel drink it.
There had been a promise to Abraham that was a guarantee to him forever. The promise was a son, a son for Abraham and a Son for YHVH. It was YHVH’s intent to establish Abraham’s descendants as His holy nation. This was the promise God made to Abraham. But how could Abraham really know that YHVH would keep this promise, as he asked in Genesis 15:8?
YHVH answered Abraham by telling him:
Gen 15:9 He said to him, “Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”
Gen 15:10 He brought him all these, and divided them in the middle, and laid each half opposite the other; but he didn’t divide the birds.
Gen 15:12 When the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. Now terror and great darkness fell on him.
Gen 15:13 He said to Abram, “Know for sure that your offspring will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.
Gen 15:14 I will also judge that nation, whom they will serve. Afterward they will come out with great wealth;
Gen 15:15 but you will go to your fathers in peace. You will be buried at a good old age.
Gen 15:16 In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full.”
Gen 15:17 It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.
The smoking furnace and flaming torch represent the Father and Son. Walking between the split pieces of the sacrifices has deep and important meaning. In the ancient Near East, and still in some parts of the world, this kind of covenant is made between people. This act represents that whichever of the two who walk through should break the covenant must die a bloody death like those animals.
Abraham was asleep watching as the symbols that represented the Father and His Son, the smoking furnace and flaming torch, passed between the pieces. He knew they had made the covenant with each other on his behalf. No greater message could have been given to Abraham. What was the message? That one of those entities would die on behalf of Abraham’s descendants if they broke the covenant.
On that day at Mount Sinai, the covenant was broken. Yeshua’s fate was sealed. Someone had to die for this serious act of adultery against Israel’s new husband, YHVH. It was a matter of justice and mercy that was built into the Torah to save Israel.
Jhn 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
Israel, Abraham’s descendants were promised all of the land from the Nile to the Euphrates rivers. And since YHVH’s Kingdom is eternal, this promise to Abraham is eternal.
John 3:16 is misunderstood. The word which is always translated as “world” is the Greek word “cosmos”. It can be translated as “world” but its original meaning is the “original order”. What was YHVH’s original plan? To have the nation of Israel be a Kingdom of priests so we can bring the “whoseoevers”, the rest of the nations, to Him.
Exo 19:5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice, and keep my covenant, then you shall be my own possession from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine;
Exo 19:6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”
The phrase “Kingdom of Priests” alludes to a nation which would represent the Order of Melchizedek on the earth. God, Yeshua, is the High Priest and King of the Order of Melchizedek. With Israel, He was establishing His Order on the earth with the nation He chose for Himself.
Now with the golden calf incident, that plan was thwarted. It appeared Satan’s religious ways had won the day. From that time forward for 1500 years, YHVH would struggle with His people trying to get them to honor Him and the covenant they had made with Him through their obedience. No generation of Israelites succeeded in obeying YHVH and He never established His Order of Melchizedek on the earth to this day. For now, it remains only in Heaven.
One thousand fifteen hundred years after the golden calf incident, Yeshua – the flaming torch that walked through the covenant pieces with the smoking furnace – came to live in a human body so He could die to re-establish His original plan and the cosmos, the original Order of Melchizedek.
You see, YHVH always has a plan A and it will turn out that YHVH’s plan A will come to pass. Mankind has sided with Satan, YHVH’s arch enemy, to stop YHVH’s plan to have the whole earth as His dwelling place ruled by the Order of Melchizedek.
By the way, the word “Melchizedek” – ‘Mel-ki-tsedek’ – means “my King of righteousness”. The Order of Melchizedek will remove the wickedness of Satan’s temporary world and the earth will once again be at peace and have the reign of holiness and righteousness in it!
Yom Kippur was one of the additions to the Law of Moses spoken of in the Book of Hebrews. All through the Law of Moses, YHVH says He replaced the Firstborns with the Levites (Numbers 3:12, 41, 45, Numbers 8:16, 18). The Firstborns are always the representatives of the Order of Melchizedek. Yeshua was the Firstborn of Mary, the Firstborn of many brethren (Romans 8:29-30). This is the first event that began to re-establish the Order of Melchizedek. Yeshua’s ascension was a further completion of the re-establishment of the Order of Melchizedek, and now when He returns, He will finally re-establish His original Order, the cosmos, on the earth which was His original plan from the beginning.
This is why we are commanded to fast and afflict our flesh, our nefesh, normally translated as “soul” once a year on Yom Kippur. Not only do the Yom Kippur sacrifices and the rituals atone only temporarily until Yeshua came, but they are a constant reminder to us of Israel’s betrayal of their God and King.
Num 29:7 “‘On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation. You shall afflict your souls. You shall do no kind of work;
Num 29:8 but you shall offer a burnt offering to Yahweh for a pleasant aroma: one young bull, one ram, seven male lambs a year old; all without defect;
Num 29:9 and their meal offering, fine flour mixed with oil, three tenths for the bull, two tenths for the one ram,
Num 29:10 one tenth for every lamb of the seven lambs:
Num 29:11 one male goat for a sin offering; in addition to the sin offering of atonement, and the continual burnt offering, and its meal offering, and their drink offerings.
Lev 16:29 “It shall be a statute to you forever: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and shall do no kind of work, the native-born, or the stranger who lives as a foreigner among you:
Lev 16:30 for on this day shall atonement be made for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins you shall be clean before Yahweh
Lev 23:26 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
Lev 23:27 “However on the tenth day of this seventh month is the day of atonement: it shall be a holy convocation to you, and you shall afflict yourselves; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to Yahweh.
Lev 23:28 You shall do no kind of work in that same day; for it is a day of atonement, to make atonement for you before Yahweh your God.
Lev 23:29 For whoever it is who shall not deny himself in that same day; shall be cut off from his people.
Lev 23:30 Whoever it is who does any kind of work in that same day, that person I will destroy from among his people.
Lev 23:31 You shall do no kind of work: it is a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
Lev 23:32 It shall be a Sabbath of solemn rest for you, and you shall deny yourselves. In the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you shall keep your Sabbath.”
Yeshua’s death and resurrection atoned for Israel’s betrayal and furthered the re-establishment of Israel as His holy nation and Kingdom of Order of Melchizedek Priests.
Psa 98:1 A Psalm. Sing to Yahweh a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand, and his holy arm, have worked salvation for him.
Psa 98:2 Yahweh has made known his salvation. He has openly shown his righteousness in the sight of the nations.
Psa 98:3 He has remembered his loving kindness and his faithfulness toward the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
Psa 98:4 Make a joyful noise to Yahweh, all the earth! Burst out and sing for joy, yes, sing praises!
Psa 98:5 Sing praises to Yahweh with the harp, with the harp and the voice of melody.
Psa 98:6 With trumpets and sound of the ram’s horn, make a joyful noise before the King, Yahweh.
Psa 98:7 Let the sea roar with its fullness; the world, and those who dwell therein.
Psa 98:8 Let the rivers clap their hands. Let the mountains sing for joy together.
Psa 98:9 Let them sing before Yahweh, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.
Yes, YHVH so loved His original Order, His original plan for the Order of Melchizedek to rule and reign on this earth through His nation of Israel, a Kingdom of Priests, that He came to die just as He promised to Abraham on the day the smoking furnace and flaming torch walked through the bloody pieces of those sacrificed animals.
The re-establishment of the Order of Melchizedek is not, complete, however. The coming Tribulation which will result in Yeshua’s return will be the final step in YHVH’s process of taking His planet out of Satan’s hand to re-establish righteousness here! Hallelujah!
Jer 31:1 “At that time,” says Yahweh, “I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they will be my people.”
Jer 31:2 Yahweh says, “The people who survive the sword found favor in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.”
Jer 31:3 Yahweh appeared of old to me, saying, “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love. Therefore I have drawn you with loving kindness.
Jer 31:4 I will build you again, and you will be built, O virgin of Israel. You will again be adorned with your tambourines, and will go out in the dances of those who make merry.
Jer 31:5 Again you will plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria. The planters will plant, and will enjoy its fruit.
Jer 31:6 For there will be a day that the watchmen on the hills of Ephraim cry, ‘Arise! Let’s go up to Zion to Yahweh our God.’”
Jer 31:7 For Yahweh says, “Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout for the chief of the nations. Publish, praise, and say, ‘Yahweh, save your people, the remnant of Israel!’
Jer 31:8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the uttermost parts of the earth, along with the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her who travails with child together. They will return as a great company.
Jer 31:9 They will come with weeping. I will lead them with petitions. I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they won’t stumble; for I am a father to Israel. Ephraim is my firstborn.
But Ephraim, headquartered in the United States of America at this time, is leading the world into the worst apostasies – abortion, homosexuality, image worship and idolatry.
Jer 31:10 “Hear Yahweh’s word, you nations, and declare it in the distant islands. Say, ‘He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd does his flock.’
Jer 31:11 For Yahweh has ransomed Jacob, and redeemed him from the hand of him who was stronger than he.
Jer 31:12 They will come and sing in the height of Zion, and will flow to the goodness of Yahweh, to the grain, to the new wine, to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd. Their soul will be as a watered garden. They will not sorrow any more at all.
Jer 31:13 Then the virgin will rejoice in the dance; the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.
There is more:
Rev 11:15 The seventh angel sounded, and great voices in heaven followed, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the Kingdom of our Lord, and of his Christ. He will reign forever and ever!”
Rev 19:1 After these things I heard something like a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Hallelujah! Salvation, power, and glory belong to our God:
Rev 19:2 for true and righteous are his judgments. For he has judged the great prostitute, who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality, and he has avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.”
The great prostitute which will be destroyed had her birth at Mount Sinai 3500 years ago while Moses was receiving the Law of YHVH. Finally! She is rising in Jerusalem right now but will be destroyed never to exist again!
Rev 19:3 A second said, “Hallelujah! Her smoke goes up forever and ever.”
Rev 19:4 The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sits on the throne, saying, “Amen! Hallelujah!”
Rev 19:5 A voice came from the throne, saying, “Give praise to our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, the small and the great!”
Rev 19:6 I heard something like the voice of a great multitude, and like the voice of many waters, and like the voice of mighty thunders, saying, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns!
Rev 19:7 Let’s rejoice and be exceedingly glad, and let’s give the glory to him. For the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his wife has made herself ready.”
Rev 19:8 It was given to her that she would array herself in bright, pure, fine linen: for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
Rev 19:9 He said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’” He said to me, “These are true words of God.”
Rev 19:10 I fell down before his feet to worship him. He said to me, “Look! Don’t do it! I am a fellow bondservant with you and with your brothers who hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God, for the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy.”
1Co 15:22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.
1Co 15:23 But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then those who are Christ’s, at his coming.
1Co 15:24 Then the end comes, when he will deliver up the Kingdom to God, even the Father; when he will have abolished all rule and all authority and power.
1Co 15:25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.
1Co 15:26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death.

Those who are obedient to the Order of Melchizedek through the Law of YHVH as given to Moses are the only ones who will enter into the Kingdom of YHVH.
1Co 6:9 Or don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Don’t be deceived. Neither the fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals,
1Co 6:10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom.
But the loyal and obedient servants of YHVH will inherit the earth.
1Co 15:50 Now I say this, brothers, that flesh and blood can’t inherit God’s Kingdom; neither does the perishable inherit imperishable.
1Co 15:51 Behold, I tell you a mystery. We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed,
1Co 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.
1Co 15:53 For this perishable body must become imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.
1Co 15:54 But when this perishable body will have become imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then what is written will happen: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

And Israel will be what YHVH intended Israel to be: His holy nation, a Kingdom of Melchizedek priests ruling and reigning over all the nations of the earth.

Be Blessed!
