The more Israel invaded Canaan, the bigger became the armies coming against them, and the greater were YHVH’s military miracles. We will see foreshadows of the two end times wars, the King of the North and Armageddon, in Joshua 10 and 11. The first is a war between Israel and a usurper in Jerusalem.

Joshua 10:1  Now when Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them,
Joshua 10:2  they were very afraid, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty.

This Adoni-Zedek is the title of a wicked Amorite king located in Jerusalem. The title, Adoni-Zedek, means “Lord (Master) of Righteousness”. This was Shem’s title in Jasher 16:11-12. Read that text at  https://www.sacred-texts.com/chr/apo/jasher/16.htm. This current man was not Shem nor do we know his name. We only know he was an Amorite, a descendant of Canaan. Canaan was not descended from Shem, but from Ham the wicked middle son of Noah.

In the future, there will be a self-proclaimed “holy man” from another nation in Jerusalem when Yeshua returns to earth. This one will be destroyed by Yeshua. Here is Daniel’s prophecy about this.

Daniel 11:45  He [the King of the North from Daniel 11:40] will plant the tents of his palace between the sea and the glorious holy mountain; yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him.

This is the King of the North. He will be a Shi’ite Iranian Mahdi, the messiah of Shi’ite Islam. To understand this, we need to back up to Daniel 9.

Daniel’s prophecies from chapter 9:26-27 are cryptic. They are not symbolic like his prophecies of the 4 Kingdoms in chapters 7 and 8. The cryptic nature of Daniel 9:26-27 provides a tiny synopsis of the future of Israel from his time forward. Daniel 9:26 says after the cutting off of Messiah Yeshua, there will come a prince to desolate YHVH’s altar to fulfill Daniel’s 62 weeks of years. This particular desolation, at the end of the 62 weeks of years, was fulfilled in 70AD when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem, the Temple and desolated YHVH’s altar. Then, it seems verse 27 jumps all the way to the end of days, to fulfill the last 7 weeks of years.

Daniel 9:27  He will make a firm covenant with many for one week. In the middle of the week he will cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease. On the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate; and even to the full end, and that determined, wrath will be poured out on the desolate.”

There will be one who comes in his own name, said Yeshua in John 5:43: “I have come in my Father’s name, and you don’t receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him.”

The first man of Daniel 9:27 who will come in his own name is the one who will make a covenant with many for 1 week of years, 7 years, a ‘shabua’, Strong’s H7620. This scripture does not say this man will cause the altar to begin operations in the end of days. Nor does it say he will have anything to do with operating the altar of YHVH. However, in the middle of this 7 years, ‘shabua’, the altar will be desolated again as it was during Rome’s occupation of Jerusalem in 70AD. In other words, the altar will cease to operate. That is the meaning of the desolation as provided in Daniel’s vision of the Greeks who desolated the altar in 167 BC. So there has to be a functioning altar for it to be desolated at the end. Yeshua spoke of this in Matthew 24:15.

Matthew 24:15  “When, therefore, you see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),

Thus, will come another man different that the first man in verse 27 to desolate the altar. The second man in Daniel 9:27, who desolates the altar, cannot be the same man as the first one who presided over YHVH’s altar. The first man will be a Jew who comes in his own name which we understand to be the Antichrist, the son of perdition. The Jews will not desolate YHVH’s altar. Nor will they choose a messiah with so little respect for YHVH’s altar. They have never desolated His altar in the past and will not do so again. No, the desolation will happen by an outsider just as has always happened in the past with the Babylonians, the Greeks and Romans. If we want to understand the future, we have to look to the patterns of the past, according to Isaiah 46:10 where YHVH says He “declare[s] the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done. I say: My counsel will stand, and I will do all that I please.

This means that another messiah will come to replace the messiah who came in his own name. People see one or the other Antichrists in Daniel 9:27, but there are two. The second man is the messiah from the King of the North in Daniel 11:45 who sets up his tent from the glorious holy mountain to the sea. Interestingly, the Palestinian battle cry is “from the river to the sea”. Can you see this? Daniel 9:27 shows us 2 men doing different things with YHVH’s altar. Daniel 11:45 shows us the King of the North setting up his tent from Jerusalem to the Mediterranean Sea.

Right now, Iran is partnered with the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank which echoes the Palestinian battle cry, “from the river to the sea”. The King of the North will not have taken control of  the Jordan river area east of Jerusalem. He won’t need to. The people who live there are poor farmers. Iran wants to remove Israel from the face of the earth, and the way to do that will be to conquer Jerusalem so that it becomes no longer a Jewish State, but an Islamic State which Iran declares itself to be. Iran will be content to control Jerusalem until such time as he finishes conquering the entire earth to set up the Islamic afterlife with Jerusalem as the capital being ruled by an Edomite.

The battle between Israel and Adoni-Zedek in Joshua’s day will repeat in the end times under the attack and conquest of Jerusalem by Iran, the King of the North, when Jerusalem, Mystery Babylon, will fall and the Shi’ite Iranian Muslims will conquer Jerusalem and set their messiah, the Mahdi, on Jerusalem’s throne in place of the Jewish Antichrist. This also will end the conflict in Islam between the Shi’ites and Sunnis about which messiah is coming: The Mahdi of Shia Islam or the 12th Imam of Sunni Islam. In fact, the conflict going on between the Shi’ites and Sunnis for 1400 years will end with the conquest of Iran, the King of the North.

Back to the scripture account.

Joshua 10:3  Therefore Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon, saying,
Joshua 10:4  “Come up to me and help me. Let’s strike Gibeon; for they have made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.”

Iran will have help from 4 other kings: Iraq, Syria, Hezbollah and Russia. Adoni-Zedek’s alliance was with other Amorites in the area. The known world was a lot smaller then.

Joshua 10:5  Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together and went up, they and all their armies, and encamped against Gibeon, and made war against it.

This is a ploy to find out if Israel will stand by its covenant with Gibeon and also to kill the Gibeonites for rebellion against the Amorite hegemony going forth from Jerusalem.

Joshua 10:6  The men of Gibeon sent to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, saying, “Don’t abandon your servants! Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us; for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill country have gathered together against us.”
Joshua 10:7  So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he, and the whole army with him, including all the mighty men of valor.

This time, it is only the warriors who go to fight, not the entire nation of Israel with old men, women and children.

Joshua 10:8  Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t fear them, for I have delivered them into your hands. Not a man of them will stand before you.”
Joshua 10:9  Joshua therefore came to them suddenly. He marched from Gilgal all night.
Joshua 10:10  Yahweh confused them before Israel. He killed them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them by the way of the ascent of Beth Horon, and struck them to Azekah and to Makkedah.
Joshua 10:11  As they fled from before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth Horon, Yahweh hurled down great stones from the sky on them to Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than those whom the children of Israel killed with the sword.

The Book of Revelation reveals YHVH’s hand in killing more people on the earth than the sword or wars of the nations will. There will be wars but there will also be famines, pestilences and natural disasters that YHVH will use to reduce the population of the earth. And yes, I stated it that way for a reason. The United Nations New World Order folks are going to depopulate the earth because they believe if they control the demolition, instead of YHVH, that they will win the final battle. The Tribulation will be brought on by man’s tampering with creation and his high-handed mimicry of YHVH in preempting the population reduction. So they start this thing, but YHVH will finish it! The New World Order folks want everyone to believe they thought of this population reduction idea, but it was YHVH who thought of it first. His population reduction has to do with ridding the earth of the wicked. This natural disaster at Azekah in verse is just a small reminder that what happened in the beginning will happen at the end, only in greater magnitude.

Joshua 10:12  Then Joshua spoke to Yahweh in the day when Yahweh delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel. He said in the sight of Israel, “Sun, stand still on Gibeon! You, moon, stop in the valley of Aijalon!”

Joshua 10:13  The sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the nation had avenged themselves of their enemies. Isn’t this written in the book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and didn’t hurry to go down about a whole day.

The Amorites worshiped both sun and moon deities, and since they refused to worship the Creator of the sun and moon, YHVH made their gods bow before Him just as He made the Egyptian gods die before Him. All knees will bend and all will bow!

Many have introduced natural and scientific explanations for this historic account, and it is a historic account since other cultures on the other side of the earth have legends of the same kind of long day, but these explanations fail every time. No one understands how this happened because it is a miracle that only YHVH could perform. That is the nature of miracles. They defy explanation and are supposed to defy explanation. Miracles show us mortals the hand and workings of God on the earth and in our lives.

Joshua 10:14  There was no day like that before it or after it, that Yahweh listened to the voice of a man; for Yahweh fought for Israel.

Let’s examine this in light of, and as a prophecy of the Tribulation. Yeshua said:

Matthew 24:21  for then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, nor ever will be.

Joshua’s Israel had a day of which there was none like it or after it. Yeshua’s Tribulation will be the same way with nothing like it before or after it. Yeshua’s statement about this was made after He warned us about the altar of YHVH being desolated, thus tying us back to the second man who desolates the altar in Daniel 9:27. Again, the desolator will be a messiah from another nation and the religion of Islam after the Jewish messiah appears and then is destroyed, as foretold.

Joshua 10:15  Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp to Gilgal.
Joshua 10:16  These five kings fled, and hid themselves in the cave at Makkedah.
Joshua 10:17  Joshua was told, saying, “The five kings have been found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah.”
Joshua 10:18  Joshua said, “Roll large stones to cover the cave’s entrance, and set men by it to guard them;

Doesn’t this remind you of another guard set at a stone covering a tomb?

Joshua 10:19  but don’t stay there. Pursue your enemies, and attack them from the rear. Don’t allow them to enter into their cities; for Yahweh your God has delivered them into your hand.”
Joshua 10:20  When Joshua and the children of Israel had finished killing them with a very great slaughter until they were consumed, and the remnant which remained of them had entered into the fortified cities,
Joshua 10:21  all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace. None moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.
Joshua 10:22  Then Joshua said, “Open the cave entrance, and bring those five kings out of the cave to me.”
Joshua 10:23  They did so, and brought those five kings out of the cave to him: the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.
Joshua 10:24  When they brought those kings out to Joshua, Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the chiefs of the men of war who went with him, “Come near. Put your feet on the necks of these kings.” They came near, and put their feet on their necks.
Joshua 10:25  Joshua said to them, “Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed. Be strong and courageous, for Yahweh will do this to all your enemies against whom you fight.”
Joshua 10:26  Afterward Joshua struck them, put them to death, and hanged them on five trees. They were hanging on the trees until the evening.
Joshua 10:27  At the time of the going down of the sun, Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and threw them into the cave in which they had hidden themselves, and laid great stones on the mouth of the cave, which remain to this very day.

This was done in accord with the commandment.

Deuteronomy 21:22  If a man has committed a sin worthy of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree;
Deuteronomy 21:23  his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall surely bury him the same day; for he who is hanged is accursed of God; that you don’t defile your land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance.

Joshua 10:28  Joshua took Makkedah on that day, and struck it with the edge of the sword, with its king. He utterly destroyed it and all the souls who were in it. He left no one remaining. He did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.
Joshua 10:29  Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, to Libnah, and fought against Libnah.
Joshua 10:30  Yahweh delivered it also, with its king, into the hand of Israel. He struck it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls who were in it. He left no one remaining in it. He did to its king as he had done to the king of Jericho.
Joshua 10:31  Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, to Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it.
Joshua 10:32  Yahweh delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel. He took it on the second day, and struck it with the edge of the sword, with all the souls who were in it, according to all that he had done to Libnah.
Joshua 10:33  Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua struck him and his people, until he had left him no one remaining.

Those who assist the wicked will be killed.

Joshua 10:34  Joshua passed from Lachish, and all Israel with him, to Eglon; and they encamped against it and fought against it.
Joshua 10:35  They took it on that day, and struck it with the edge of the sword. He utterly destroyed all the souls who were in it that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.
Joshua 10:36  Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, to Hebron; and they fought against it.
Joshua 10:37  They took it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, with its king and all its cities, and all the souls who were in it. He left no one remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but he utterly destroyed it, and all the souls who were in it.
Joshua 10:38  Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir, and fought against it.
Joshua 10:39  He took it, with its king and all its cities. They struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls who were in it. He left no one remaining. As he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to its king; as he had done also to Libnah, and to its king.
Joshua 10:40  So Joshua struck all the land, the hill country, the South, the lowland, the slopes, and all their kings. He left no one remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Yahweh, the God of Israel, commanded.
Joshua 10:41  Joshua struck them from Kadesh Barnea even to Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even to Gibeon.
Joshua 10:42  Joshua took all these kings and their land at one time because Yahweh, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.
Joshua 10:43  Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp to Gilgal.

Now, we can examine the war prophecy for Armageddon, Har Meggido.

Joshua 11:1  When Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, he sent to Jobab king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph,
Joshua 11:2  and to the kings who were on the north, in the hill country, in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, in the lowland, and in the heights of Dor on the west,
Joshua 11:3  to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite in the hill country, and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

Whereas Adoni-Zedek and his coalition were holding the conquered south (like Iran who will have conquered the King of the South during the tribulation), these kings and their cities are north in the hill country, in the plain south of the Kinneret, a city near what we call the Sea of Galilee. These cities stretch across the Jezreel plain to the Mediterranean Sea. Armageddon is a Jezreel Valley war. Har Megiddo is the mountain used by the kings of Judah, starting with Solomon, as a watch tower.

The Jezreel Valley played a role in many wars inside Israel’s borders. “A victory was led by Deborah and Barak against the Canaanites (Judges 4). Another was led by Gideon against the Midianites, the Amalekites, and “the children of the East” (Judges 6:3). It was later the location at which the Israelites, led by King Saul, were defeated by the Philistines (1 Samuel 29:1–29:6). …The account of an ancient Philistine victory at Jezreel …places the Philistine victory against the Israelites at Mount Gilboa (1 Samuel 28:4,1 Samuel 31:1–31:6). Another defeat was of King Josiah by the Egyptians (2 Kings 23:29).” Also in the Jezreel Valley. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jezreel_Valley

This battle in Joshua 11 is not recounted as a Jezreel Valley battle because it occurred all around the Jezreel Valley, not within the valley itself, but it happened in the north, the direction from which will come the United Nation’s army.

Joshua 11:4  They went out, they and all their armies with them, many people, even as the sand that is on the seashore in multitude, with very many horses and chariots.

This is a description of Armageddon, is it not?

Joshua 11:5  All these kings met together; and they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.

The end times Armageddon war will bring a coalition of nations just like this coalition.

Joshua 11:6  Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t be afraid because of them; for tomorrow at this time, I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.”

One reason this battle prophesies about the end times Armageddon war is precisely this: YHVH will do the battle. The coalition army will be slain even before the battle commences.

Notice there was a cleanup after the battle. It was to hamstring the horses and burn the chariots. After the end times Armageddon battle, Israel will be cleaning up the mess for 7 months. In Joshua’s time, there was a lot less to clean up than will be in the yet future war.

Joshua 11:7  So Joshua came suddenly, with all the warriors, against them by the waters of Merom, and attacked them.

This describes Yeshua’s approach to the United Nations army – suddenly!

Joshua 11:8  Yahweh delivered them into the hand of Israel, and they struck them, and chased them to great Sidon, and to Misrephoth Maim, and to the valley of Mizpah eastward. They struck them until they left them no one remaining.

It must occur that Israel gets the victory. This is the victory which will be had by the 144,000. Christian theology has them in heaven or returning with Yeshua’s heavenly army. These are not men who have been taken to heaven. Yeshua has an earthly army and the 144,000 is it. This war will have the same outcome as when the Israelites fought the 5 kings of Midian plus Balaam of Beor, and not one man was lost.

Num 31:49  They said to Moses, “Your servants have taken the sum of the men of war who are under our command, and there lacks not one man of us.

Joshua 11:9  Joshua did to them as Yahweh told him. He hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots with fire.
Joshua 11:10  Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and struck its king with the sword: for Hazor used to be the head of all those kingdoms.

The United Nations will be defeated.

Joshua 11:11  They struck all the souls who were in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them. There was no one left who breathed. He burned Hazor with fire.

All the New World Order wicked elites who prize themselves over everyone else will be destroyed!

Joshua 11:12  Joshua captured all the cities of those kings, with their kings, and he struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them; as Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded.
Joshua 11:13  But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, except Hazor only. Joshua burned that.

These cities’ inhabitants were killed but the infrastructure was left standing to be used as places of refuge. The next verse explains this.

Joshua 11:14  The children of Israel took all the plunder of these cities, with the livestock, as plunder for themselves; but every man they struck with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them. They didn’t leave any who breathed.
Joshua 11:15  As Yahweh commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua. Joshua did so. He left nothing undone of all that Yahweh commanded Moses.
Joshua 11:16  So Joshua captured all that land, the hill country, all the South, all the land of Goshen, the lowland, the Arabah, the hill country of Israel, and the lowland of the same; Joshua 11:17  from Mount Halak, that goes up to Seir, even to Baal Gad in the valley of Lebanon under Mount Hermon. He took all their kings, struck them, and put them to death. Joshua 11:18  Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.

Joshua 11:19  There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took all in battle.
Joshua 11:20  For it was of Yahweh to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
Joshua 11:21  Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel: Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.
Joshua 11:22  There were none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel. Only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain.
Joshua 11:23  So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Yahweh spoke to Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. The land had rest from war.

Israel’s story is the same from the beginning to the end. There are patterns in Israel’s history that repeat until such time as Yeshua Himself will stop the repetitions. Israelites who identify with Biblical Israel of 12 tribes, not the modern UN-created STATE of Israel which can only claim 4 tribes plus their companions, but Biblical Israel will understand what is coming. The Bible was written to Israelites, about Israelites and for Israelites.
