Chukat-Balak 2023: The Blessed Cannot Be Cursed

When the lessons have been learned the enemy uses all his tactics against God’s people. If we are in His will and are following Him, He blesses us and no one can curse us. In all of this event, I want you to notice what did the children of Israel do? Were they in a state of fear, or were they like sheep grazing in the fields? Consider what David said in times of his despair because Saul wanted to kill him. Yet all the while he placed his trust in God because only He could save him from the King’s hand,

Psa 23:1-6 MKJV

(1) A Psalm of David. Jehovah is my Shepherd; I shall not want.

(2)  He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.

(3)  He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

(4)  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

(5)  You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.

(6)  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of Jehovah forever.

What has God promised us if we will follow Him?

Lev 26:7-9 MKJV

(7) And you shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword. (8)  And five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight. And your enemies shall fall by the sword in front of you.

(9)  For I will have respect to you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish My covenant with you.

Joh 10:27-29 MKJV

(27) My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

(28)  And I give to them eternal life, and they shall never ever perish, and not anyone shall pluck them out of My hand.

(29)  My Father who gave them to me is greater than all, and no one is able to pluck them out of My Father’s hand.

In Numbers chapter 22 we see the children of Israel resting before the Midianites on their way to the Jordan River. King Balak was very frightened by this. He has heard about these people and how God protected them along their journey. Not was Balak afraid his whole people were afraid. When you are serving God the way He wants you to then no one will be able to stand before Him. Interestingly you do not see the children of Israel concerned about any of this. Apparently at this point they completely trusted God and put their faith in Him. When we lean on Him, He will direct our steps so that we will be safe.

Joh 10:9-16 MKJV

(9) I am the door. If anyone enters in by Me, he shall be saved and shall go in and out and find pasture.

(10)  The thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (11)  I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.

(12)  But he who is a hireling and not the shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away. And the wolf catches them and scatters the sheep.

(13)  The hireling flees, because he is a hireling and does not care for the sheep. (14)  I am the Good Shepherd, and I know those that are Mine, and I am known by those who are Mine.

(15)  Even as the Father knows Me, I also know the Father. And I lay down My life for the sheep.

(16)  And I have other sheep who are not of this fold. I must also lead those, and they shall hear My voice, and there shall be one flock, one Shepherd.

Because of the fear that Balak had he summoned Balaam to come and place a curse on the children of Israel. I have said that fear is a poor motivator. In this case what did gain king Balak? In the next Torah Portion, we will see that Balak was able to get the Israelites to bring a curse upon themselves. What Balak did not realize is this, God does not care how many people are fighting, because it is not the people who are fighting the enemy rather it is Himself who is fighting them. Consider what Jesus told Saul (Paul),

Act 9:1-7 MKJV

(1) And Saul, still breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest

(2)  and asked letters from him to Damascus to the synagogues; so that if he found any of the Way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

(3)  But in going, it happened as he drew near to Damascus, even suddenly a light from the heaven shone around him.

(4)  And he fell to the earth and heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?

(5)  And he said, Who are you, lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom you persecute. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.

(6)  And trembling and astonished, he said, Lord, what will You have me to do? And the Lord said to him, Arise and go into the city, and you shall be told what you must do.

(7)  And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, indeed hearing a voice but seeing no one.

Num 22:5-6 MKJV

(5) He sent messengers therefore to Balaam the son of Beor, to Pethor, by the river of the land of the sons of his people, to call him, saying, Behold! A people come out from Egypt. Behold! They cover the face of the earth, and they are staying across from me.

(6)  Therefore, I pray you, come now and curse this people for me. For they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall prevail so that we may strike them, and so that I may drive them out of the land. For I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.

Lev 26:3-13 MKJV

(3) If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments and do them,

(4)  then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

(5)  And your threshing shall reach to the vintage, and the vintage shall reach to the sowing time. And you shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.

(6)  And I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down and none shall make you afraid. And I will cause evil beasts to cease out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.

(10)  And you shall eat of the old provision, and clear away the old because of the new.

(11)  And I will set My tabernacle among you. And My soul shall not abhor you. (12)  And I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be My people. (13)  I am Jehovah your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, from being their bondmen. And I have broken the bonds of your yoke, and made you go upright.

In all that life throws at us to throw us off track. Remember God is with us always for those who love Him. He will never leave you nor will He forsake us. As the Children of Israel rested and trusted in God how much more shall we trust in Him who came, lived among us, died on our behalf so that we could spend eternity with Him. This is our promise and our hope.

Jer 31:3 MKJV

(3) Jehovah has appeared to me from afar, saying, Yea, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving-kindness I have drawn you.

Rom 8:38-39 MKJV

(38) For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

(39)  nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. If we love Him who saved us then why do we worry? He is our Rock and He provides for us in ways that we cannot understand. In the years ahead many trials shall come that will test us to see if we have faith and trust Him that He will deliver us at this time.
