This teaching is called “The Priesthood of the LORD”, “The Priesthood of YHVH”. I’m going to delve pretty deeply into the Order of Melchizedek in this one because Aaron is being ordained as High Priest of Israel to serve YHVH and Yeshua is our Order of Melchizedek High Priest and we need to know exactly what that means.
We’re at a time in history when we’re at the end whether that happens in our generation and still has a few years to go or not, we’re at that place in history when the Order of Melchizedek is going to return to earth. So we’re going to find out how that functions. We need to under how the ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK functions; how it functioned in the past; what changed. Next week, we will find out changed. And we will learn something about the restoration of the ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK because this is our current and future government.
This teaching is very condensed. I have already given a 7-part series with more information at The Messianic Message.com (this link will take you right to those teachings).
All of that said, let me draw a comparison with the making of Aaron’s uniform with the Order of Melchizedek. There is a parallel between chapter 28, the making of Aaron’s uniform, and Hebrews 1.
Right here, I want to say this heralds the establishment of the nation of Israel. Understand – the nation of Israel here being ordained as the earthly representative of the Order of Melchizedek. It is important for us to get that because the Order of Melchizedek was before the earth was formed. The Order of Melchizedek is eternal. It is the government of YHVH in Heaven. It is always portrayed in our past before now (in human history). The Melchizedek has been a human King-Priest until now but never a nation. Those former men were there to represent the Heavenly Order of Melchizedek on the earth. Now Israel will represent the Order of Melchizedek on the earth.
Aaron’s garments symbolize every aspect of YHVH’s relationship with Israel from the bearing the darkness of the tribes’ iniquity through the two onyx stones worn on the shoulders with the tribal names engraved on them (Exodus 28:9-12) to the judgment of the Israelites in the breastplate (Exo 28:30) to bearing the responsibility for any mischief or wrongdoing or harm to the Tabernacle’s furnishings, utensils, the screen and veils (Exo 28:36-38).
All the colors, stones and gold were not there just to inspire the pride of Israel within the people. Each material and color was symbolic of some attribute of YHVH and Heaven.
Much has been written and I have taught on the symbolism of the garments but there is much deeper significance in what is happening here than just the symbolism. A new era was begun on the earth with the implementation of the Order of Melchizedek, on the earth as a nation, with Aaron as its High Priest. This is like a spiritual earthquake. In the same way that Yeshua had impact on the earth to this day, the ordination of the Order of Melchizedek still has impact on the earth from Heaven. We don’t see it because we think that the Heaven and the earth are two separate things but in another sense the earth is being governed from Heaven.
The ceremony also has symbolic significance which is often overlooked in favor of spending time on the garments, the colors, materials and the total elaborateness of the garments. I will not draw the parallel from Hebrews 1 until later on in the teaching. Right now, I want to spend some time explaining the ordination ceremony.
Before the ceremony, Aaron and his sons were regular Israelites. There is evidence in the testimony of the 12 Patriarchs and Jasher that talks about Levi and YHVH told him that he would given the Priesthood. They may have functioned unofficially from their time in Egypt from the tribe of Levi but unofficially, making them more like “regular” Israelites from the tribe of Levi.
It would take 7 days to complete it beginning with anointing the 5 men and performing the bull and 2 rams sacrifice (Exodus 29:1) that probably took nearly 2 hours to complete. This was followed by 7 days of sequestering in the Tabernacle (Exodus 29:30). And all of it was done in the plain sight of all the Israelites. There were no secrets kept from Israel about this Priesthood. The Order of Melchizedek is not a secret Order. We’ve treated it secretively and something mysterious but it’s really not when we see that there is nothing about the Order of Melchizedek. All of its functions are known unlike religious Orders wherein initiates and their ceremonies are kept secret on pain of torture and death! That is because YHVH did not create religion. This is not “club Israel”. This is a nation called Israel. Gentiles, even, are all free to convert to become Israelites. He is creating a nation, a Kingdom from which to rule the whole earth!
One other note has to do with the fact that YHVH is not bestowing the entire mantle of the Order of Melchizedek on Aaron. The Order of Melchizedek is a King-Priest Order. The King and the High Priest is the same individual. We understand now that Yeshua is our King and our High Priest. That is always how it was with the Order of Melchizedek.
Aaron will represent the Priest side of the Order of Melchizedek on earth. He will be the earthly to Yeshua the High Priest in Heaven until Yeshua comes who, at His resurrection, was able to hold the role. In Heaven, He’s the High Priest but He assigned from Adam forward men to hold that role on earth. When Yeshua resurrected, He was both Israel’s King and High Priest. Israel’s King and High Priest must be both man and divine. This is something people understand.
The King role will be kept by YHVH but He requires a Priesthood to serve Him and His best interests as earthly representatives. Later, Israel will reject YHVH as their King (1 Samuel 8:7), an act that will lead to the destruction and exile of all 12 tribes. Yeshua came to the earth to re-establish Himself as King and High Priest over the Order of Melchizedek as a human, taking the human Kingly and High Priest roles over the Order of Melchizedek both in Heaven and on earth from the nation called Israel.
This ordination of Aaron is not the creation of the Levitical Order. this is the ordaining of the Order of Melchizedek. As we go through this you will understand. In Heaven, these two roles are combined into one individual, Himself. He had to come to earth to combine them together on the earth, too. Yeshua is now the earthly King and High Priest as well as the Heavenly King and High Priest. He now rules over both realms simultaneously.
The Order of Melchizedek has had earthly King-Priest representatives from the time of Adam. We read the genealogy of the Order of Melchizedek King-Priests in Genesis 5. There were 2 men in the Genesis 5 list who did not become a Melchizedek. The first was Enoch, the second Lamech (not the same as Lamech, Cain’s grandson). Enoch was in the lineage but he walked so closely with YHVH Elohim that Enoch was taken. Lamech was Noah’s father but died before his father, Methuselah, who was the Melchizedek until just before the flood. When Methuselah died, Noah attained that office. Noah then selected Shem as the Firstborn representative and passed the mantle of King-Priest to him where he resided at Salem, later called Jerusalem.
The Order of Melchizedek has always been an Order of Firstborns. The early lineage of firstborns from Adam to Noah were both the physical and spiritual Firstborns. Noah, however, had the unenviable task of selecting a son with the required state of spirituality toward YHVH. Japheth was the firstborn of Noah. Shem was Noah’s third-born son. Ham was in the middle. But it was Shem that exhibited the traits of a King Priest of YHVH.
The physical firstborn is not the Firstborn in every instance. It depends on the relationship they have with YHVH. This is in keeping with the mandate and mission of the earthly Melchizedek King-Priest which is to be concerned with YHVH’s best interests. The physical is never to be preferred over the spiritual because of sin and death.
We know this genealogy in Genesis 5 is the Melchizedek genealogy is correct because Peter confirms that Noah was the eighth preacher of righteousness.
2 Peter 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
Noah was the 8th Melchizedek from Adam (Genesis 6:9). This confirms that Noah was the 8th Melchizedek.
Now though, it is time for YHVH’s promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to be fulfilled by making their descendants into a nation of Melchizedek Priests with YHVH as King. Notice now that the Priesthood on earth will separate from the Kingship. Shem was a King-Priest, but now Aaron will take the Priesthood and YHVH will be the King and God of Israel. This is the official legal status of YHVH. Remember, though, that in the future the people will choose a human King over YHVH. They rejected YHVH as King. But here, in this ordination, YHVH will pass the Priestly role to Aaron and his sons and YHVH will keep the King role.
This is so important that I want to summarize this. It can seem to be complication. The King-Priest in Heaven is Yeshua. For a long time, there were earthly King-Priests. Now that is being split. A man will be High Priest but not King. Later on, the Israelites will choose for YHVH to not be their King. On the earth, then, there will be two men doing the role of Yeshua on the earth: The Aaronic High Priest role and King role. This is why Yeshua had to restore this government structure on the cross. It fell apart on the earth because of sin and death but He restored it and He is now the Heavenly and earthly King and High Priest.
Let’s go back to the ordination ceremony of Aaron and his sons.
Even though Aaron and his 4 sons were sequestered, their activities were not unseen by the congregation, especially their meals starting with the meat of consecration.
Exo 29:31 “You shall take the ram of consecration, and boil its meat in a holy place.
The ram’s meat is symbolic of something because it was boiled. The symbolism of boiling meat is different than roasting meat. Just a couple of months ago, the Israelites had roasted lambs. The roasting was significant for what that meant: Becoming wanderers like their forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Roasted meat is the meat of nomads. It is the meat of people who don’t have a country of their own. The roasted lamb had not only its blood on the doorpost but meant, symbolically, “this is not your home”.
Boiled, however, meat is the meat of settlers who are here to stay. We’re not going anywhere. Indeed, there always has been an Israel even though for most of its life it has been in captivity. But Israel has been here from this time forward for the last 3500 years. That boiled meat meant “Israel is here to stay”.
And now it is not a lamb, but a ram, an older adult male sheep that symbolizes maturity even though Israel at this point is only a few weeks old like a lamb. It isn’t the maturity of Israel that is symbolized with the ram, it is the maturity of the Order of Melchizedek being symbolized. Yeshua is the ram, the adult male, who was caught in the thicket at Isaac’s binding. Thus, it is Yeshua, the King and High Priest of the Order of Melchizedek in Heaven that is being symbolized here. This ram is the ram of consecration and this ceremony will only happen once in the history of mankind. So right here is where the Order of Melchizedek is ordained through a nation, the nation of Israel, with YHVH as its King and Heavenly High Priest and Aaron as its High Priest.
Exo 29:32 Aaron and his sons shall eat the meat of the ram, and the bread that is in the basket, at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
In plain view of the entire congregation, they ate their meals for 7 days. The message from YHVH to the world is “Israel is here to stay”. “We’re here reclining at the door of the Tent of Meeting. Look at this! We are a brand new nation!” The congregation watching Aaron and his sons eat boiled meat would have provided a sense of comfort and permanency even though their nation was brand new!
More importantly though, the meat and bread would have been viewed as YHVH’s provision both to Aaron and his sons and themselves.
Exo 29:33 They shall eat those things with which atonement was made, to consecrate and sanctify them: but a stranger shall not eat of it, because they are holy.
The Aaronites were the only men who could eat the sin that gets put into the flesh of those animals and atonement offerings, which are the ‘chata’ah’ and ‘asham’ offerings, according to Leviticus 7:35-38.
When you take your animal – ram – to the Temple, you were to put your hands on its head. There was a transmission of sin from you to the animals. This is what Aaron and his sons ate – these sin and atonement offerings.
They also had access to the right thigh of the ram, the ram of consecration. This is because Yeshua put Jacob’s right thigh our of place. That is why the right thigh of the ram is eaten by them.
What doesn’t get eaten because men can only eat so much gets burned by fire (Exo 29:34). Fire is another way to dispose of sin. Fire consumes everything leaving only ash behind.
There were consecration sacrifices daily for 7 days.
Exo 29:36 Every day you shall offer the bull of sin offering for atonement: and you shall cleanse the altar, when you make atonement for it; and you shall anoint it, to sanctify it.
Exo 29:37 Seven days you shall make atonement for the altar, and sanctify it: and the altar shall be most holy; whatever touches the altar shall be holy.
The 7 days of consecration parallel the 7 days of creation. That’s another way we know this is the creation of Israel being ordained as the Order of Melchizedek on the earth.
Now comes the instruction for the continual burnt offering. One lamb in the morning, the other in the afternoon (Exodus 29:38-42).
Then YHVH speaks of the Tabernacle:
Exo 29:43 There I will meet with the children of Israel; and the place shall be sanctified by my glory.
Exo 29:44 I will sanctify the Tent of Meeting and the altar: Aaron also and his sons I will sanctify, to minister to me in the priest’s office.
Here is a good place to explain that the Aaronic Priesthood did not serve Israel. The Priesthood served YHVH. It was to have YHVH’s best interest as its main concern because serving the King’s best interest also protected and provided for the best interests of the nation.
We get it wrong in thinking the Priests served Israel. This is the natural and common way of looking at it. But the Priesthood was not consecrated by Israel. It was consecrated by YHVH for YHVH’s purposes, not for Israel’s, the people’s, purposes which were almost always guided by their personal desires and their sin nature.
YHVH emphasizes that the Priests serve Him repeatedly in Exodus 28:1, 3, 4, 41, 29:1, 30:30, 40:13 and 40:15. It is important for us to understand who these Priests serve. As a hint about next week’s teaching, it might have been a good idea for Aaron to have understood this, as well.
It may seem unimportant and too subtle to make a difference but it isn’t. The legal interest and highest concern Aaron has toward YHVH in his job as High Priest is to have YHVH’s highest best interests in mind at all times. Aaron is not to consider what the people want but what YHVH wants.
Now YHVH again says He will dwell among His people:
Exo 29:45 I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God.
Exo 29:46 They shall know that I am Yahweh their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, that I might dwell among them: I am Yahweh their God.
Notice that although in Exodus 29:43, the people are required to come to the Tabernacle.
Exo 29:43 And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory.
If the Priesthood had been created to serve the people, the Priesthood would have gone to the people. If YHVH was there to serve the people, YHVH would go to the people. The Priesthood does not go to the people and YHVH does not go to the people, either. They come to Him. Thus, this Priesthood and Israel serves YHVH first and ahead of everything else.
I understand that we have YHVH’s Spirit dwelling in us but one of the purposes for that is for us to go to Him.
THE Order of Melchizedek
Now, here is the parallel between Aaron’s Ordination and Yeshua’s. Many people think Exodus 28-30 is about preparing the Levitical Priesthood. It is not. This preparation is for the line of Aaron to become the earthly counterpart High Priest to Yeshua in the Order of Melchizedek. We have already looked at some evidence for this but there are a couple of other ways for us to establish it.
Let me take you to Isaiah 46:10 which is how we know what the end will be from looking at the beginning and vice versa. Revelation says there will be Kings and Priests reigning with Yeshua. We also see New Jerusalem come down. New Jerusalem coming down from Heaven means this city was here before. I understand this is perhaps controversial or new but if you look at the end, you will know what was at the beginning. This city was here before and the garden was planted eastward from it. Eastward is not a direction. East is a direction, but eastward requires something to be going from. If we take Isaiah seriously, what other conclusion can we reach? We don’t know when the city got taken up but we know when it coming back.
Now let’s go to Exodus 19:6 where YHVH tells the people they will be a Kingdom of Priests. We already know that YHVH sets aside His firstborns in every generation.
Yeshua is the High Priest of the Order that is coming found in Heb 4:14-8:6. The Book of Hebrews is about the Melchizedek Priesthood. This is the same Priesthood in Exodus 19:6 and it is described, not named, in Revelation 5:10.
Yeshua is the King and High Priest of the Order of Melchizedek. Under Him will be other Kings and other priests. This is the understanding of the phrase King of kings and LORD of Lords. He is sovereign and will have other under Him in a chain of command, a hierarchy, other Kings and other Lords. Now He is LORD (YHVH) and those others Lords are “masters” and will be under Him.
We need to understand this because we are trying to qualify to be part of this Order of Melchizedek. Not everyone will qualify for it but that does not mean those who don’t won’t be in the Kingdom. The Firstborns of every family would have been the Priests, serving under Aaron and his sons, in the Order of Melchizedek. But their family members would still have been Israelites living in Israel. See what I mean?
There are qualifications of righteousness that must be met. Revelation 14:3-4 says the 144,000 are those who were not defiled with women and they follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These are qualifications of not being idolators and doing what the Lamb says to do when the Lamb says to do it. In other words, keeping the Lamb’s commandments and being His personal servant to do His will in our daily lives.
First, the Book of Hebrews compares the Levitical Order (Hebrews 7:11) to the Order of Melchizedek. According to the Book of Hebrews, the Levitical Order on earth is the failed substitute Priestly Order whose only comparison is to the Order of Melchizedek. The Levitical Order substituted for the Order of Melchizedek when YHVH took the Levites instead of the Firstborns of Israel. We will see why that happened next week.
What would the firstborns serving in the Tabernacle have looked like? It would been the service performed by the Gershonites, Merarites and the Kohathites. Taking care of an maintaining the structure, carrying the items, all of that kind of thing. That would have been the Firstborns jobs and they would have been overseen by Aaron and his sons.
Another way we know Israel’s original government was supposed to be Firstborn-based, Melchizedekian, with Aaron as High Priest and his sons assisting the Firstborns in their legal duties toward YHVH, is because of what the Apostle Peter wrote:
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:
Peter ever so briefly tells us, and corroborates the Book of Hebrews, that the Order of Melchizedek had been re-established with Yeshua. Let’s go now to see the correlation between both Aaron’s ordination and Yeshua’s in the Order of Melchizedek.
Hebrews 1:1 God, having in the past spoken to the fathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways,
Hebrews 1:2 has at the end of these days spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds.
Now, we have direct transmission from Yeshua starting with His life on earth. We also have the prophets but this transmission in the Book of Hebrews is coming from the Son of God. The world was waiting for the heir to come obtain His inheritance. The Book of Hebrews will now explain the Son’s inheritance.
The “worlds” in Hebrews 1:2 is not a good translation. The Greek word is “aion”, eon in English, ages. This is important for understanding the process that the world is still experiencing. The Kingdom of YHVH is still in the throes of creation. We like to think that creation was complete at the end of Genesis 1. But it wasn’t entirely. We still have to see the Kingdom to come and reign on the earth. The Kingdom is still being birthed. See Revelation 12 regarding this. The physical heavens and earth were finished but the Kingdom is not done being created.
Hebrews 1:3 His [the Father’s] Son is the radiance of his [the Father’s] glory, the very image of his [the Father’s] substance, and upholding all things by the word of his [the Son’s] power, who, when he [the Son] had by himself purified us of our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
The world is upheld by one thing: The power of Yeshua’s Word. We can take that to the bank. When He had accomplished His goal of making purification of the world possible, He sat down on the right hand of the Father. His work was complete.
Hebrews 1:4 having become so much better than the angels, as he has inherited a more excellent name than they have.
This is not comparing Him to angels but it is telling us something important. It’s telling us that He sometimes took the form of angels. The Son of God never was an angel. He only took that form to appear to mankind as He steered humanity toward its destination. He created angels and their form was the best for His interaction with humans before He was born into a human male body. Afterward, He now appears to us in human form in our dreams and visions, not as an angel as before. And because His work is so much better than that of any angel, He has a better name, a better reputation and a more solid authority.
Hebrews 1:5 For to which of the angels did he say at any time, “You are my Son. Today I have become your father?” and again, “I will be to him a Father, and he will be to me a Son?”
The Father never said that to any angel. People who compare Yeshua to an angel don’t understand this. The phrase, “I will be to him a Father, and he will be to me a Son ?” is a reference to YHVH establishing the offspring of David’s throne in the future. I won’t cover too much of this now but we know it it wasn’t Solomon whose throne was established. However, going down this “King” road a little bit, we can see this was fulfilled in the promise found in Psalms 110:4:
Psalms 110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.”
Also in Psalms 110:1 we read about the Son making His Father’s enemies his footstool.
Hebrews 1:6 says, “when He brings in the Firstborn” into the world.
Hebrews 1:6 When he again brings in the firstborn into the world he says, “Let all the angels of God worship him.”
This is another way we know the Order of Melchizedek is a Firstborn Order. We read that also in Revelation 1:6 and 5:10.
Hebrews 1:8 But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your Kingdom.
The Father is saying “of the Son” and calling the Son God. He is God for ever and ever. The scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your Kingdom. Here is the cross reference for that in Psalms 45:6-7.
Psalms 45:6 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness;
Psalms 45:7 you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions;
God is the one who loved God and hated wickedness and He also has a God called “your God” who has anointed You with the oil of gladness beyond Your companions. So Yeshua’s throne is established in Heaven and He does reign over all the earth.
We may think He doesn’t rule over the earth right now but it pleases Him for the world to complete its iniquity before He comes to reward or punish. The crimes must be completed and all who are supposed to be born must be born to do what they will do in regard to Him and His Kingdom. YHVH is still in the midst of creating His Kingdom. It is not yet fully birthed but it will be, as we understand from Revelation 12.
Hebrews 1:9 You have loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your companions.”
But it can now be proven that Yeshua, being God, made Himself equal to humans by being born into a human body. Now, He is elevated above humans because He loved righteousness and hated iniquity. In light of Exodus 28, the job of the Priestly line was to do just that. None of the Priests or Kings succeeded in upholding YHVH the Father except Yeshua. Now He is rightfully exalted above humans and above the angels.
Hebrews 1:10 And, “You, LORD, in the beginning, laid the foundation of the earth. The heavens are the works of your hands.
Hebrews 1:11 They will perish, but you continue. They all will grow old like a garment does.
So Aaron as High Priest and Yeshua as the Heavenly High Priest have this connection to each other through the garments. Aaron’s garments grow old. They are perishable. We have now the subtle introduction here in Hebrews 1 of Yeshua as our High Priest with the mention of these garments and His garments never wear out.
Hebrews 1:12 You will roll them up like a mantle, and they will be changed; but you are the same. Your years will not fail.”
To roll or fold the garments of the High Priest meant his duty was completed. His garments were carefully cared for and he changed into different clothes before leaving the Temple. Yeshua’s garment, however, is never removed, rolled or folded up or changed. His garments never grow old and His years never fail, i.e. He never dies as did Aaron.
The spiritual lesson here is that the work of the earthly High Priest was always temporary. Yeshua’s work is now permanent. The Hebrews writer is not setting up the scenario of something being discontinued, but rather it being made better, being perfected and being made permanent.
What constitutes the former arrangement? The entire Temple system? There is no former system. It is the same system. I taught about that last week. There is no part of it that is perishing. The High Priesthood remains. It was only transferred from Aaron to Yeshua. The Kingship is also guaranteed to Yeshua. The promise to David did not have a parallel promise of a forever High Priesthood to Aaron. It was Aaron’s line, his descendants, who had the promise. Aaron’s High Priesthood was never going to be permanent. I believe Aaron himself, will serve under Yeshua in the coming Millennial Temple.
The man wearing the garment of High Priest is of utmost importance. He must be without blemish, without sin, and he must be eternal. YHVH used mortal humans to fill those Priestly garments temporarily until such time as a sinless and eternal one could fill both the Heavenly and earthly role.
That does not make the system YHVH created a flawed one. The system is not flawed. The men were flawed and a certain amount of time had to pass so that the record could show forever that the Priesthood requires a sinless and immortal High Priest because all the High Priests and Priests sinned and all died.
The earthly High Priesthood and the Heavenly High Priesthood became combined in one man because that man was Yeshua who is also God. The Levitical Order will continue after the Order of Melchizedek comes because of the promise given to the Aaronite line. The Levitical Order will continue once the world has completed its sin cycle and has been judged. At that time, the line of Aaron will be sinless and eternal/immortal will still serve in YHVH’s Temple within His system.
Praise Yeshua for the marvelous and incredible things He has done. Israel’s people are not all that need to be reunited. Israel was fractured from the top down and Yeshua restored all Israel and the Order of Melchizedek with one life, one death and one resurrection!
Be Blessed!
