This account is true. Samuel did not make this up. It is such an unbelievable story that it might seem imaginary but he was not making it up nor creating an allegory or moral story. The account turned out to have a very prophetic application from then all the way to the end of days.

Why didn’t Samuel end the Book of Judges once he said Samson had “Judged Israel for 20 years? It appears Samuel wanted to include in the Book of Judges two accounts which explain to us the depths of Israel’s fall, especially highlighting the corruption of the Priesthood.

Whereas the story of the harlot in Judges 16:1-3 prophesied of the current condition of Israel, it also prophesied about Israel’s future state as a nation and as the Northern House of Israel’s future state AND how Yeshua would bear the cross to save and restore her back to His righteous nation.

The story of Samson is entirely prophetic. It is not about the weaknesses of the flesh from which we fall into sin. Rather it is the story of the sorry spiritual state of Israel which require detailed prophecies about Israel’s Messiah yet to come, details that were not given heretofore in the lives of the forefathers, Joseph and Moses.
