I mentioned 2 extra-Biblical books in this teaching and study. Here is the Book of Jasher and the Testament of the 12 Patriarchs. These were mentioned because the Book of Malachi in this Torah Portion speaks about the Covenant that YHVH made with Levi which was fulfilled at Mount Sinai.
Malachi says:
Malachi 2:4 You will know that I have sent this commandment to you, that my covenant may be with Levi,” says Yahweh of Armies.
Malachi 2:5 “My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him that he might be reverent toward me; and he was reverent toward me, and stood in awe of my name.
Malachi is referencing the Covenant with Levi which is mentioned in Jasher and in the Testament of the 12 Patriarchs.
Jasher 55:13 says… Let not Levi carry with you, for he and his sons will carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord with the Israelites in the camp, neither let Joseph my son carry, for as a king so let his glory be; howbeit, Ephraim and Manasseh shall be in their stead.
The making of the Covenant is found in the Testament of the 12 Patriarchs in Levi’s chapter. Here is what it says:
5 1 And thereupon the angel opened to me the gates of heaven, and I saw the holy temple, and upon 2 a throne of glory the Most High. And He said to me: Levi, I have given thee the blessings of the 3 priesthood until I come and sojourn in the midst of Israel. Then the angel brought me down to the earth, and gave me a shield and a sword, and said to me: Execute vengeance on Shechem because 4 of Dinah, thy sister, and I will be with thee because the Lord hath sent me. And I destroyed at 5 that time the sons of Hamor, as it is written in the heavenly tables. And I said to him: I pray 6 thee, O Lord, tell me Thy name, that I may call upon Thee in a day of tribulation. And he said: I am the angel who intercedeth for the nation of Israel that they may not be smitten utterly, 7 for every evil spirit attacketh it. And after these things I awaked, and blessed the Most High, and the angel who intercedeth for the nation of Israel and for all the righteous.
The account of Levi begins on page 38 in the book.
